A consortium of 17 partners joins forces across sectors to drive human-centered, transparent, and responsible AI innovation
The EU-funded AIXPERT project, worth €7.5 million, embarks on a bold effort to reshape how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is developed, deployed, and trusted across critical real-world domains: from healthcare and human resources to creative industries, manufacturing, and robotics. As AI technologies rapidly evolve, so do public concerns around bias, opacity, and accountability. Many AI systems raise serious questions about fairness, transparency, and ethical use, especially when used to make decisions that affect people’s lives.
AIXPERT seeks to address these challenges by delivering a comprehensive, human-centric AI framework grounded in FATE principles: Fairness, Accountability, Transparency, and Ethics. The project will create adaptive, explainable AI systems that are transparent, traceable, and inclusive by design.
We are at a critical inflection point where AI’s tremendous potential can only be fully realised if we get the fundamentals right from the ground up. This isn’t just about building more powerful systems—it’s about building AI that people can actually trust and understand. When an AI system makes a recommendation about someone’s medical treatment or hiring decision, that person deserves to know not just what the decision was, but why it was made and whether it was fair. AIXPERT with its framework embeds these FATE principles directly into the architecture itself, so transparency and accountability are not afterthoughts—they are the foundation. We are essentially creating AI that can explain itself in human terms while maintaining the rigor and performance that makes it valuable in the first place”.

About AIXPERT
AIXPERT is an European Union-funded Research and Innovation Action (Grant Agreement No: 101214389) running for 36 months, involving a consortium of 16 European partners and 1 international partner. The project explores new approaches to designing and applying AI systems that are reliable, transparent, and aligned with societal values across key application areas. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or the Health and Digital Executive Agency. Neither the European Union nor the granting authority can be held responsible for them. This project has received funding from the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI).
