On 23 June, AIXPERT partner University of Groningen (RuG) participated in a workshop at the 32nd International Conference on Engineering, Technology and Innovation (IEEE ICE) in Porto, Portugal. The session brought together representatives from several EU-funded projects in the field of AI, including cluster projects TRUMAN and TURING, to discuss how robustness and trustworthiness can be embedded into AI systems deployed in real-world settings. AIXpert was represented by Christos Emmanouilidis (Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen). The workshop was chaired by AIXPERT’s Project Officer, Karina Marcus, representing the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA).

The discussion focused on key challenges such as reliability, transparency, explainability, fairness, accountability and risk management. Participants exchanged experiences on developing practical methods, tools and evaluation frameworks to ensure AI systems remain effective, safe and trustworthy across different application domains.
This was the 32nd International Conference on Engineering, Technology, and Innovation (ICE IEEE/ITMC) – a flagship event of the IEEE Technology and Engineering Management Society (TEMS).
Sharing Insights from AIXPERT
RuG contributed insights from the AIXPERT project, highlighting the importance of trustworthy and responsible AI for evidence-based decision-making and knowledge generation. The exchange revealed common challenges across projects, including validation, uncertainty management and stakeholder engagement, while underscoring the value of cross-project collaboration in advancing trustworthy AI.
In addition to the workshop, the conference featured the presentation of the paper Trace-Aligned Diagnostics for Agentic AI Pipelines, presented by Anastasios Koukas, PhD researcher at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen, contributing to ongoing efforts to improve the reliability, observability and accountability of advanced AI systems.
