Irene works at the IEEE Europe Office in Vienna, where she focuses on governance and standardization aspects of the green and digital transition, including the metaverse and AI ethics. She also identifies strategic opportunities and supports the engagement of the IEEE Europe Office in Horizon Europe projects.
From 2016 to 2019, she served as a member of the Law Committee of the IEEE Global Initiative on Ethics of Autonomous and Intelligent Systems. She also conceptualized and led the flagship publication Technology Trends on Artificial Intelligence at WIPO, a specialized UN agency. This work introduced an original taxonomy covering AI techniques, functional applications, and application domains, alongside research based on patent and scientific literature in the field of AI.
Irene is a certified IEEE AI Ethics Lead Assessor and holds certifications in AI Business Transformation from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, as well as in Life Cycle Assessment: Quantifying Environmental Impacts from MIT.

Adrian is the European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH) AI Initiatives Analyst at CeADAR, Ireland’s centre for applied AI. In his current role, Adrian supports the development of regulatory, ethical, and standardisation initiatives, on behalf of the EDIH team and its clients. He is a participating member of the subcommittee on artificial intelligence at the Irish (NSAI/TC02/SC18), European (CEN/CLC/JTC 21) and international (ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 42) level. He is also a participating member of the pan-European taskforces on Ethical and Trustworthy Artificial and Machine Intelligence (etami) and Standards, which are both hosted by the Big Data Value Association. Adrian has PI experience in relation to projects investigating the ethical and responsible use of Generative AI in government and academic institutions.

George Roussos holds a B.Sc. in Mathematics from University of Athens, Greece, an M.Sc. in Numerical Analysis and Computing from University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, UK, and a Ph.D. from Imperial College of Science Technology and Medicine, University of London, UK.
Before joining Birkbeck College as an academic he worked as the Research and Development Manager for a multinational information technology corporation in Athens, Greece, where he was responsible for the strategic development of new IT products in the areas of knowledge management and the mobile internet; as the Internet Systems Security Officer for the Ministry of Defence, Athens, where he designed the Hellenic armed forces Internet exchange and domain name systems; and as a research fellow for Imperial College, London, where he conducted research in distributed systems. He is currently investigating the effects of social activity on system architectures, privacy in Web3, the ethics of data science and digital healthcare. He is a member of the ACM, the IEEE Computer Society and IAPP.
